Chaos in Odisha Assembly Over CM’s Allegations of Job Irregularities During BJD Rule | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Opposition BJD members Saturday created a ruckus in the state assembly over chief minister Mohan Majhi‘s Friday statement pointing to massive irregularities in recruitment and entrance examinations when BJD was in power. The CM made the statement while participating in a debate on the Odisha Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024, which was later passed by the assembly.
Soon after the house reconvened, BJD members shouted anti-govt slogans and sought to expunge the CM’s statement in which he said govt jobs were sold for Rs 25 lakh to Rs 30 lakh in the market. BJD MLAs stormed into the well, seeking clarification and proof from the CM on his statement. Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned proceedings, first till 11.30 am and again till 4 pm.
Speaking to reporters outside the assembly, BJD MLA Pramila Mallik said the CM’s statement was in bad taste and a new low to malign the image of the previous govt led by BJD. “If he has proof that jobs were sold in the market, he should be specific. Since the govt machinery is at his disposal, he can order a probe and take action against the guilty,” she said.
Pramila said the CM’s statement is an insult to lakhs of govt employees who were recruited on the basis of their eligibility and competence. It also lowers the morale of job aspirants who have been studying hard to get jobs, she said.
BJP MLA Santosh Khatua countered by saying if BJD had the moral courage to face the irregularities when it was in power, then its MLAs would not have walked out of the house when the CM made the statement Friday. Khatua said BJD is talking about action against perpetrators of malpractices in recruitment examinations. The new Bill passed Friday will empower the govt to take stringent action, he said.
