Rourkela: A businessman and his family from Rourkela escaped the recent terror attack in Pahalgam thanks to their teenage daughter’s last-minute change of plans.
Ajay Agrawal (54), a resident of civil township, Rourkela, his wife, Rashmi, and their 14-year-old daughter, Sayesha, arrived in Srinagar on April 18. They visited various tourist destinations before reaching Pahalgam on April 21.
“We had initially planned to visit Baisaran valley on April 22 morning. A horseman had even confirmed our booking. However, my daughter insisted on visiting Aru, Betab and Chandanwari valleys instead,” said Agrawal.
The decision proved crucial as terrorists later attacked tourists in Baisaran valley the same day. The family learned about the attack when their cab driver, who was supposed to take them to Baisaran valley later, alerted them about the situation.
“We witnessed the aftermath at our hotel, which was close to Baisaran valley. Women and children with mud and blood-stained clothes were rushing down. A woman whose father had been shot took refuge in our hotel lobby,” Agrawal said.
The family, which returned to Rourkela on April 25, attributed their escape to divine intervention and their daughter’s intuition. “If not for our daughter’s reluctance, we would have been at Baisaran valley during the attack,” said Agrawal.
