Centre’s direction fuels Balasore woman’s hope | Bhubaneswar News

Balasore: The Centre’s announcement of a fresh window for Pakistani nationals with expired long-term visas (LTV)s or pending applications has come as a relief to a 72-year-old woman living in Balasore district.
The woman, who was earlier served with a notice to leave India by April 27, has been residing in India for six decades and holds several identity documents. Her family had appealed for compassion, citing her deteriorating health condition and lifelong ties to India. The govt’s latest directive has brought considerable relief to her and her family.
Confirming the development, Balasore SP Raj Prasad said, “As per the latest directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Pakistani nationals whose LTVs have expired or are under process can now submit fresh applications between May 10 and July 10.”
The SP said follow-up action will be taken strictly as per law. “Our priority is to ensure that all visa-related processes are handled in compliance with central and state regulations. We will monitor the situation closely and act accordingly based on official instructions,” he added.
Adding further clarity, the SP said, “Any future steps — whether extension, verification or legal action — will depend on the govt’s policies.”
The woman, who is battling kidney-related ailments, has a scheduled medical appointment in Bhubaneswar on May 10. Her family, who had been anxiously awaiting a resolution, expressed hope that she will now be allowed to live out her remaining years in the country she calls home.
