MUMBAI: The Central Railway conducted special traffic and power blocks for the launching of the FOB main girder between Kalyan and Vangani overnight until early Sunday morning.
The block was operated on the Up and Down lines between Kalyan and Badlapur, and the lines between Ambernath and Vangani (excluding stations) from 1.30 am to 3.30 am on Sunday.This enabled the erection of seven FOB girders, which were 12 metres wide, an official said.
Another block was carried out on the Up and Down lines between Badlapur and Vangani (excluding stations) from 1.30 am to 3 am for the erection of four FOB girders, each being 4 metres wide.
A third section block was carried out on the Up and Down lines between Karjat and Bhivpuri Road (excluding stations) from 2 am to 3.30 am for the erection of two composite plate girders.
Some of the Mail and Express trains were diverted due to the blocks. This included Train no 11020 (Bhubaneswar – CSMT Konark Express), Train no 18519 (Visakhapatnam – LTT Express), Train no 12702 (Hyderabad – CSMT Hussainsagar Express), and Train no 11140 (Hosapete – CSMT Express).
Suburban services were also impacted during the blocks. “These maintenance blocks are essential for infrastructure upkeep and safety,” said CR Chief Spokesperson Swapnil Nila.
