Celebrate 150 Years of IMD with the National Meteorological Olympiad | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: IMD will organise a national-level ‘Meteorological Olympiad‘ for students to mark its 150th foundation day celebrations.
The Olympiad scheduled to be conducted in two stages — at state level this month and at national level in Jan — is open to students of classes VIII, IX and XI. It aims to foster enthusiasm and awareness about weather and climate sciences among young students, said an IMD release. Students interested to participate in the Olympiad need to register their names by Dec 10, the release said.
According to IMD, the state-level exam will be held online on Dec 14 and 15 and feature a one-hour online examination comprising 60 MCQs on meteorology and related sciences. Result of the state-level exam will be announced on Dec 17.
The national-level contest and workshop will take place on Jan 14 in New Delhi, followed by the foundation day celebrations on Jan 15, where winners will be felicitated.
At the state level, winners in each class will receive Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 for first, second and third prizes, respectively. Similarly at the national level, state-level winners will compete for Rs 25,000, Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000 for first, second and third positions, respectively. All participants who complete the Olympiad will also receive digital certificates of participation.
Travel and lodging expenses of top three winners from each state, to be invited to New Delhi for the workshop and foundation day function and an accompanying teacher or guardian will be covered by IMD, the release said.
