CCTV Cameras: Sambalpur locality installs CCTV cams to curb crime | Bhubaneswar News


Sambalpur: In a bid to curb thefts and criminal activities around Budharaja Temple, residents of Ramgarh area in the city have installed eight CCTV cameras.
Sources said Budharaja Temple, located in ward no 21, attracts many visitors but has also become a hotspot for addicts and young couples. Incidents of stealing petrol and motorcycles also prompted the residents to take action.
Around 2,000 families live in the Ramgarh area.Yagya committee of Radha Krushna Temple, comprising local residents, funded installation of the CCTV cameras which cost around Rs 45,000.
The CCTV control room has been set up at homes of committee members.
“Boys from outside come to Budharaja Hill and the temple. Some of them consume ganja, cough syrup and alcohol in the area. We requested police patrolling but it only happened once. So we decided to install CCTV cameras to curb these activities,” said Kailash Sahu, a resident. “Since CCTVs were installed in April, thefts and criminal activities have stopped,” he added.
Additional SP Haresh Pandey said, “Govt is planning to install CCTV cameras in every locality. Cameras installed by residents must be high definition and provide quality footage.”
