CBI probes recruitment ‘irregularities’ in AIIMS | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: A team of CBI officers carried out searches at AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Wednesday over suspected irregularities in recruitment. The search operation was initiated after CBI found that four men got jobs at AIIMS using forged documents, a source said.
A central PSU conducted written examination in 2023-24 for four positions at AIIMS Bhubaneswar — two posts each of sanitary inspector and medical record technician. The probe agency recently received a complaint about the use of fake certificates, including fabricated work experience letters, to secure the jobs. The four suspects, who were selected for the posts, were previously employed as temporary employees at AIIMS through an outsourced agency.
As the investigation raised serious concerns about the recruitment process and verification procedures at premier medical institutions, CBI officers spent several hours examining recruitment files, certificates and employment records of the suspects. They also collected digital evidence and communication records related to the case.
“The central PSU that conducted the recruitment test has been asked to provide detailed information about their candidate verification process. Questions have emerged about how the fake documents went undetected during the initial screening phase,” a CBI source said.
The CBI team arrived in the morning and questioned some people in the administrative wing while reviewing various documents. The four suspects who are under the scanner for allegedly furnishing fake documents are said to be on the run.
CBI is also investigating the role of a middleman connected to the outsourcing company, who is believed to be the key orchestrator of the recruitment irregularity, the source said. The middleman’s role appears to be crucial as investigators believe he helped the suspects obtain forged documents and guided them through the recruitment process. His previous associations with other recruitment agencies are also under scrutiny.
AIIMS authorities said they cooperated with the CBI officers. “Our establishment has nothing to do with the recruitment irregularities. The test was conducted by a central PSU. We handed over some documents sought by the CBI,” an AIIMS officer told TOI, on the condition of anonymity.
