CBI: CBI arrests FCI officials for bribery scandal | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: CBI on Tuesday arrested four persons, including two FCI officials posted in the city, in connection with a recent Rs 1 lakh bribery case.
The accused were identified as FCI general manager Prem Singh Bhanot, manager (accounts) Sanjoy Dey, Syed Hasnain Ahmed (middleman) and Malina Dey alias Soumi Bhattacharya, a rice transporter. CBI officials said another middleman, identified as Swapan Kumar Ghoshal, is on the run.
“Bhanot and Dey helped her to secure a tender of rice transportation from FCI by conspiring with two middlemen.The accused GM demanded Rs 5 lakh bribe from her in lieu of the favour,” said a CBI spokesperson, adding that Malina gave a bribe of Rs 1 lakh to Bhanot at his residence here on June 28.
The CBI seized Rs 5 lakh cash, locker keys, mobiles, laptops and incriminating documents during searches in Kolkata, Hyderabad and Bhubaneswar in the last two days, the spokesperson said.
“The arrested persons were produced before the competent court at Bhubaneswar and were remanded to police custody till July 6,” the CBI spokesperson said.
