Cattle trader shot and robbed of ₹1.5L in Araria | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: A cattle trader was shot dead and robbed of Rs 1.5 lakh by three bike-borne criminals under Raniganj police station of Araria district on Wednesday. The incident happened when victim Babu Akhtar (40), a resident of Barbanna village in Palasi police station area of Araria, was going to buy cattle at a market in Singheshwar locality of Madhepura district.
According to police, Akhtar was travelling with his father Mohd Suleman in a pick-up van. On their way, three criminals on a motorcycle allegedly intercepted their vehicle on Raniganj-Araria road and attempted to rob them of their belongings. When Akhtar resisted the robbery bid, the criminals shot him and fled with Rs 1.5 lakh kept in his bag.
“An injured Akhtar was taken to Raniganj referral hospital by his father and some local residents, but the doctors on duty declared him dead. Prima facie, the incident is related to a robbery. Someone must have acted as a liner as the criminals had prior information of the cash kept with Akhtar. The forensic team visited the spot and collected samples from there. Further investigation in the matter is going on,” said Sanjay Kumar, in-charge of Raniganj police station.
