Case registered after stray dog attacked with sword | Bhubaneswar News

Berhampur: Police on Sunday registered an animal cruelty case against an unidentified person for alleged assault by a sword on a stray dog in Gandhi Nagar area here in the early hours of Saturday. The assault came to light after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
“The case was registered under different sections of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and Arms Act against the accused in Town police station after a local lodged a complaint,” said Saravana Vivek M, SP (Berhampur). “Police are trying to identify and to nab the accused by verifying the CCTV footage,” he said.
“Exact reason for attacking the dog was not known. The reason will be known only after the arrest of the culprits,” said the SP.
However, condition of the canine was good as locals took care of the animal, police said.
Animal rights activists condemned the incident and urged the police to take stringent action against the attackers.
