Case against villagers for locking up three schools | Bhubaneswar News

Berhampur: Police on Tuesday registered a case against villagers in Gajapati district’s Gangabad panchayat for locking up three primary schools at Champapur, Manikpatna, and Sagadia since Monday, in protest against the teachers allegedly not coming to school regularly. Two complaints were also lodged against teachers for allegedly assaulting the villagers
“A case was registered at Garabandh police station on Tuesday night after Prasad Kumar Bisi, headmaster of Champapur Upper Primary School, lodged an FIR,” said Madhabanand Nayak, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Paralakhemundi.
The school management committee has lodged another FIR at Garabandh police station, alleging the doors of the school were damaged by some miscreants allegedly engaged by the teachers.
Hadibandhu Karjee, sarpanch of Gangabad panchayat, said a parent, identified as Laxman Sabar of Sanadeula, was injured in the alleged attack by the teachers and their hired miscreants. “We have lodged two FIRs. Police, however, did not register our cases so far,” he alleged. “The standard of the students did not improve due to disruptions as the teachers were frequently absent,” claimed Karjee.
If the police do not register their cases, the villagers threatened to go to the collector and SP. Nayak said police are investigating their complaints.
Mayadhar Sahoo, district education officer (DEO), Gajapati, however, refuted the allegations. He said the teachers were attending school regularly, as per a preliminary inquiry. He has ordered the block education officer to conduct an inquiry into the present incident.
