Carpenter stabbed while trying to catch phone thief in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: A 20-year-old carpenter sustained multiple stab injuries while trying to catch a thief who stole his mobile phone.
Mohit Kumar from Uttar Pradesh was awakened by noises around 5am on April 19 at an under-construction building in Hosakerehalli, south Bengaluru. He found an intruder — later identified as Mohammed Tousif, 25, — searching for valuables and realised his phone was missing.
When Tousif attempted to flee, Mohit managed to catch him. However, Tousif attacked him with a knife, inflicting several stab wounds. But Mohit didn’t give up. As Tousif started running again, Mohit chased and caught him. Both fell on the road. On hearing Mohit’s cries for help, a colleague rushed to the spot and tried to catch Tousif, but in vain. Tousif escaped but left behind his scooter (registration number KA-01-HF-8397) outside the building, which helped cops catch him.
A resident of Chalavadipalya, Mysuru Road, Tousif was remanded in judicial custody Tuesday and sent to Central Prison.
