Carpenter loses his life to hit-and-run after week long battle for survival in Mumbai hospital

MUMBAI: A 25-year-old carpenter battled for life in a hospital for a week before succumbing to injuries sustained in a hit-and-run incident at Borivali West. The MHB Colony police have registered a case of rash driving and negligence against a tempo driver involved in the crash. Police are looking for the driver.
Sunil Vishwakarma, the victim, lived at Nala Sopara with his parents. His father, Rajendra Vishwakarma, 56, is also a carpenter. The father-son duo used to work together.
On March 13, the duo came to a marble store at Borivali West for work around 10 am. They finished the job by 9 pm and boarded a shared autorickshaw from Yogi Nagar to head to Borivali railway station.
The auto had reached Petpuja restaurant when a speeding tempo came in their direction and hit the auto on the right side. Sunil, who was seated near the right side of the vehicle, suffered serious injuries to his head and right leg.
He began bleeding profusely which left his father very worried. Meanwhile the tempo driver fled without helping an injured Sunil to go to a doctor. Rajendra was unable to make a note of the tempo’s registration number.
Police said Sunil was rushed to the civic-run Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital at Kandivali for treatment. Later, he was moved to the Apex Hospital and on March 15, he was moved to the KEM Hospital. However, his condition remained critical and he succumbed to his injuries on March 20.
Subsequently, his father registered a complaint with the MHB Colony police in Borivali.
