Cancer fighters group organises walkathon

Sambalpur: The Bargarh Cancer Fighters Group launched “Mission Gaon Ku Jiba” (Mission to the village) to spread cancer awareness in rural areas. As part of this initiative, a cancer awareness run-walkathon was organized at Bargarh town and all 12 block headquarters. Around 5,000 persons participated.
The run started from Lengu Mishra Mini Stadium in Bargarh. District collector Aditya Goyal asked the youth to avoid harmful substances that cause cancer and praised the Fighters Group for their efforts. Chief district medical officer Nirupama Sarangi shared her personal loss due to cancer and stressed the need for early detection and treatment.
The Fighters Group, formed by cancer survivors, has been conducting health camps and awareness programmes in urban areas, but rural communities still lack knowledge about cancer. With cases increasing even in remote villages, this initiative aims to educate and prepare people to fight the disease.
Fighters Group President Prasanna Kumar Mishra said, “Mission Gaon Ku Jiba” will create a healthier, cancer-aware society with active participation from all blocks. Fighters Group Trust chairman Aswini Kumar Darjee added, “This is not just an event but a movement.”
