Buxar boils at 47.2C as heatwave sweeps state | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: Extreme heatwave conditions gripped several parts of Bihar, with Buxar recording a scorching temperature of 47.2 degrees Celsius on Thursday. The Indian Metrological Department (IMD) has warned that people will not get any respite from the sizzling summer heat for the next 48 hours.
The Met office has issued a red alert for severe heatwave in four districts of south-west Bihar – Buxar, Rohtas, Kaimur, and Aurangabad – till June 14.Heatwave and hot and humid conditions will continue to prevail over southern districts and isolated places in north-west and north-central parts of the state till June 15. However, the situation is expected to improve from the evening of June 15 or June 16, as the weathermen have predicted rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning in most parts of the state, which may mark the arrival of the southwest monsoon in Bihar.
According to the IMD bulletin, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at isolated places over northern, south-central, and south-east parts of the state on June 15 and 16. The rain activity is expected to cover most parts of the state on June 17 and intensify on June 18 and 19. Fairly widespread rainfall is expected over the northern districts of Bihar during the next six days.
S K Patel, a meteorologist at the local Patna Meteorological Centre, said there would be no significant change in the maximum temperature across the state during the next 48 hours. However, there is a possibility of a fall in maximum temperature by 1-2 degrees C afterwards, he added.
Apart from Buxar, severe heatwave conditions were declared in eight other districts –Bhojpur (46.3 degrees C), Arwal (46 degrees C), Aurangabad (45.8 degrees C), Gaya (45.7 degrees C), Vaishali (45.6 degrees C), Rajgir (44.5 degrees C), Nawada (44 degrees C), and Siwan (44 degrees C). Heatwave conditions were observed in eight districts, including Patna, with a temperature of 41.8 degrees C. However, the “feel like temperature” in the state capital was 52 degrees C.
The extreme heatwave conditions have disrupted daily life in the affected regions, with people struggling to cope with the soaring temperatures. The state govt has issued advisories urging people to take necessary precautions, such as staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, and wearing lightweight and light-coloured clothes.
As the state eagerly awaits the arrival of the monsoon, which is expected to bring much-needed relief from the oppressive heat, authorities are closely monitoring the situation and have put in place contingency plans to deal with any heat-related emergencies.
