Bengaluru: A 47-year-old businessman and local street vendors’ association president was arrested for allegedly creating a public nuisance during a grand birthday celebration held in the middle of a busy road in Vidyaranyapura.The accused, Bhaktavatsala is a resident of Narasipura Layout in the city’s northeast. According to police, he was arrested Saturday after a suo motu case was registered against him under charges related to public nuisance and negligent handling of explosive substances.The incident took place on the night of June 12, when Bhaktavatsala returned home from work to find a surprise birthday celebration organised by his associates. As part of the celebration, a table was set up in the middle of Narasipura Main Road, and banners were hung congratulating Bhaktavatsala on his 47th birthday. As revellers burst crackers and shouted birthday wishes, Bhaktavatsala cut the cake amid cheers and the loud revving of motorbikes.Several videos of the event, including those shot by Bhaktavatsala’s wife, were uploaded on social media and widely circulated. However, one of the videos caught the attention of a police officer from Vidyaranyapura police station, who was monitoring social media activity in the area.Police soon booked Bhaktavatsala and others involved. Bhaktavatsala was taken into custody and later, produced before a magistrate, who granted him bail.
