Burglar went to steal cash at Aruna’s house, but walked out with dates: Cops | Hyderabad News

Hyderabad: A migrant worker from Uttarakhand, Mohammed Akram, who intruded into Mahabubnagar MP and BJP leader DK Aruna’s residence at Jubilee Hills in the early hours of March 16, was arrested from his rented accommodation at Talab Katta on Tuesday.
Akram sneaked into the house to steal, but since he could not find anything during his over one-hour stay at the house, he picked up dates from the kitchen while sneaking out of the house, Jubilee Hills police said.
Akram would steal only cash and never touch gold and other valuables even if he found them during the crime. The reason, he told police, was that it was difficult to dispose of gold and other valuables. He also has an obsession with branded clothes and shoes and spent his proceeds from crime on them. Even at DK Aruna’s residence, he was wearing branded shoes and clothes.
Two days before the crime, he conducted a recce in the area and zeroed in on Aruna’s house not knowing that it was an MP’s residence. On the night of the crime, he travelled to the spot in an auto rickshaw and fled the place the three-wheeler, an officer said.
He migrated to the city two weeks ago and was working as a tiles worker at Talab Katta, from where he was caught. Eight police teams scanned footage of over 300 CCTVs from the crime scene to his residence at Talab Katta and caught him.
Announcing his arrest, deputy commissioner of police (DCP), West Zone, SM Vijay Kumar said that Akram, a habitual property offender, was involved in over 30 cases of theft, of which 17 were registered in Delhi in 2017.
Material used for breaking houses, clothes worn at the time of the crime, mobile phones, and other material were seized from his possession, and he was sent in judicial remand, the DCP added.
Police said that he was last released from Tihar jail in June 2024 in a previous case at Delhi.
