Sambalpur: A strange case of theft took place in Ranikhinda village under Sasan police station limits on Friday. A naked thief carrying a bag on his back but with his face covered was found stealing items from a shop at midnight.
Shop owner, Arun Agarwal (46), filed a case in Sasan police station on Saturday. Agarwal, in the complaint, said the unidentified miscreant broke into his shop and took two cartons of facewash, one carton each of baking powder, amla oil, toothpaste, and three cartons of oil, which cost around Rs 25,000, and Rs 2000 from the drawer.
CCTV footage of two places where the miscreant was found is now circulating in a messaging app. In the video of the shop burglary, he had covered his face with a cloth and was carrying items in a sack. In another video recorded in the CCTV camera of a house, where grocery items were stored, a miscreant is breaking into the house and carrying a carton of items.
In the house video, the miscreant is found wearing a one-third pant but has covered his face with a red cloth. It is difficult to establish whether the miscreant in both videos is/are the same person.
Bhupen Sahu, a resident of the city, said, “I saw a man roaming naked around govt bus stand near Laxmi Talkies around 2 pm today (Monday). He was having food at a hotel there. I told him to wear clothes. Though he had not masked his face, he was trying to hide it from me. He seems to be a lunatic.”
Sources in police said, on the night of theft it was raining; hence, the thief could have removed his clothes but worn a mask so that he is not identified in CCTV cameras.
