Thane: The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), on Monday launched a demolition drive on illegal structures obstructing the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed corridor in the Shil-Daighar area. The structures, mostly multi-tier buildings, were obstructing the construction of the lines. A few residents staged protest when the teams arrived at the spot, but timely intervention by police and civic security ensured the drive proceeded peacefully.
“A few anti-social elements constructed illegal structures and sold these flats to unsuspecting buyers, making it difficult for us to take action initially, but we managed to evacuate the structures,” informed deputy municipal commissioner Manish Joshi. — Manoj Badgeri
