BRS backs 42% BC reservation bill: Harish

Hyderabad: Former finance minister and BRS MLA T Harish Rao has urged the state govt to introduce an amendment to the BC reservation bill, providing 42% reservation for BCs in govt contracts.
Supporting the bill introduced by the Congress govt, he said in the assembly, “BRS fully supports the bill presented by the Congress govt. In the past, we introduced reservations for the Goud community in wine shop allocations and implemented various measures for BCs. We are ready to travel to Delhi with Congress leaders to urge the Centre to pass the bill.”
However, Harish Rao stressed that the govt should consider several key suggestions, as the Centre’s permission is not required. He also emphasised the need for a provision in the bill to ensure 42% reservation for BCs in govt contracts. Additionally, he urged the govt to allocate Rs 20,000 crore for BC welfare in the upcoming budget and to implement a dedicated BC sub-plan.
“Rahul Gandhi, as the Leader of the Opposition at the national level, must make a strong effort to ensure Centre’s support for this reservation,” Harish Rao said, adding, “Our MPs will stand by you.”
