Brothers’ dream run in crime ends as cops come knocking | Chennai News – The Times of India

Chennai: Two siblings fattened on the spoils of a life of crime met their comeuppance on Thursday after three long years when they were arrested by police and sent to jail.
Tamizharasan, 35, and Tamizhilselvan, 37, brothers living on Ponniamman Koil Street, Sholinganallur were fuelled by the greed for a lavish lifestyle, and had embarked on a three-year long crime spree, which involved chain snatching and smartphone theft in and around Semmencherry. Police initiated a probe and search after two cellphone snatching incidents were reported at a restaurant and a bus stop on the same day. CCTV crime footage helped cops zero in on the perpetrators. A team headed by inspector Suresh apprehended them from a hideout in Palur, Kancheepuram district. During interrogation, the brothers said they would cruise on high-end motorcycles, specifically targeting women to snatch gold chains and mobile phones.
An investigating officer said the duo sold stolen smartphones at a shop in Parry’s, earning anywhere between 2,000 and 4,000 per phone. The earnings bankrolled staycations at star hotels as well as lavish excursions to popular hill stations. The brothers have several pending cases against them at Semmencherry, Thazhambur, and Kannagi Nagar police stations. The duo has been remanded in judicial custody.
