Brother of Sena man held 5 mths after his murder | Mumbai News – Times of India

Palghar: The Palghar crime branch and officials of Gholwad police station arrested Avinash Dhodi, who has been accused of kidnapping and murdering his elder brother Ashok on Jan 19. Ashok was a Shiv Sena leader from Dahanu and Talasari in Palghar district. More than 50 cops had to scan five states and footage from hundreds of CCTVs while depending on human and technical intelligence to nab him from his hideout in Silvaasa on Sunday morning. Of nine accused, five were arrested in Jan and Feb, while three more accused are on the run. Avinash had allegedly planned and executed this operation. After kidnapping Ashok from Vevaji in Dahanu, while he was on his way home, the accused person allegedly killed him and put his body in his car boot and later dumped it in a quarry filled with water in Umargaon, Valsad (Gujarat). It was later retrieved after police found vital clues of the possibility of the car being dumped several feet down in the water. In February the cops had also seized their run-away vehicle from a remote village in Rajasthan. After dumping Ashok’s body, a couple of the accused had used this car to flee from the spot. Cops have confirmed that there was an old ongoing family dispute between the two brothers and it was also confirmed that Ashok was against his younger brother Avinash’s illicit liquor business and other illegal activities and used to legally escalate those, causing financial loss to him. The police will now interrogate Avinash to understand the reasons for the alleged kidnap and murder.Superintendent of police Yatish Deshmukh said it was an on-going search operation with a lot of cops involved and working round-the-clock. “We got his confirmed location from technical and human intelligence and nabbed him,” he said.
