Patna: A portion of a bridge under construction over the Ganga river in Katihar collapsed on Thursday. The small bridge was being constructed by the rural works department to link the Bakiya Sukhaye panchayat area with the district headquarters town. Fortunately, there was no report of any casualty due to the incident, reports Kshitiz
“The construction of the bridge started recently.Two pillars of the bridge collapsed. It was not the main river, but a streamline of the Ganga. There was an increase in the river current, because of which the two pillars collapsed,” Katihar DM Manesh Kumar Meena said. The DM added that the pillars were cast around 15 days ago. “The soil beneath the pillars was eroded, which led to the incident,” he said.
