Break-in bid at sealed SoBo store of Torres case accused | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Mumbai: The Gamdevi police lodged an FIR against unidentified persons for breaking into and attempting theft at one of the sealed establishments of the alleged Torres Ponzi scam. The fraud has affected 13,000 investors who lost Rs 130 crore in all.
The premises, situated in the Dharam Palace building on N S Patkar Marg, were sealed by Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) this year while investigating the fraudulent jewellery enterprise.
On Friday, authorities responded to reports of a break-in. They found the shop’s shutter partially raised by force. EOW officials conducted an inspection and confirmed that nothing had been stolen, as the premises contained only furniture and basic items. “There was nothing inside the store as most of the important documents were seized in the case. It could be a case of attempt to house break,” said an officer.
EOW reported that their personnel last inspected the premises on Mar 7, and during a visit on Mar 15, all items remained undisturbed. Investigators said the incident could be the work of a burglar unaware of the store’s involvement in the fraud investigation.
EOW registered an FIR at Gamdevi police station for trespass and break-in. The probe to track down the burglar and find out details of the purpose of the break-in attempt.
