B’pur police return 80 cellphones to owners

Ara: Bhojpur police rang in the New Year by returning 80 lost cellphones to their rightful owners, bringing smiles on their faces on Wednesday.
Bhojpur superintendent of police (SP) Raj and Sadar SDPO, ASP Parichay Kumar, handed over the recovered phones to their rightful owners at the former’s office in Ara.
“Under ongoing ‘Operation Muskan’, our special police teams assisted by the district intelligence unit (DIU) conduct scientific investigation to trace the lost or stolen cellphones and inform their lawful owners. The estimated cost of the recovered cellphones, which were handed over to their respective owners today (Wednesday), is Rs 17 lakh,” the Bhojpur SP said.
He added 326 lost cellphones worth Rs 72 lakh were recovered in the last four months.
“I appeal to the people to immediately lodge a complaint with their respective police stations in case they lose their cellphones. The police will ensure their recovery,” he assured people.
Visibly elated over the recovery of his lost cellphone, Kamlesh Kumar, a resident of Karisath, thanked the Bhojpur police. “It is a New Year gift for me,” he said. Another lucky owner said he had lost his cellphone in Buxar about one-and-a-half-month ago. “It is a pleasant surprise to get back my lost phone,” said the owner.

The operation was carried out based on a tip-off.
