BPSC conducts retest for one centre amid protests – Times of India
Patna: Amid ongoing protests seeking cancellation of the 70th Combined Competitive Examination (CCE) prelims by a section of aspirants and political parties, the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) conducted a retest in Patna on Saturday for specific candidates. The initial examination at one centre in Patna had been cancelled following allegations of malpractices and a purported paper leak.
BPSC’s examination controller, Rajesh Kumar Singh, said the re-examination for candidates from Bapu Pariksha Kendra was held across 22 centres in Patna. “Admit cards were issued to 12,012 candidates for the re-exam. Of these, 8,111 downloaded their admit cards and 5,943 appeared for the examination. The exam was conducted in a peaceful and misconduct-free environment,” Singh said.
The prelims exam held on Dec 13 last year at Bapu Pariksha Parisar in Patna’s Kumhrar locality was marred by disruptions. Some candidates snatched question papers from invigilators and walked out, alleging paper leaks and malpractices. Although the BPSC denied any paper leak, it decided to conduct a re-exam for affected candidates.
Patna DM Chandrashekhar Singh and SSP Avkash Kumar, along with other senior officials, inspected various examination centres throughout the day. In the Patna Sadar subdivision, 15 centres were set up, while Danapur and Patna City subdivisions had three and four centres, respectively. “Magistrates and police officers were deployed at all centres, fulfilling their responsibilities effectively,” said the DM.
The DM outlined the elaborate arrangements to ensure the examination was smooth and incident-free. “A total of 22 zonal magistrates, 24 static magistrates-cum-observers and seven flying squads were deployed. Also, sub-divisional officers and sub-divisional police officers actively monitored and supervised the examination process,” he said.
Candidates’ entry and exit were managed seamlessly, according to Singh. “The district control room was operational throughout with 14 magistrates and police officers on standby for rapid response to any issues. A quick response team was also deployed for immediate action based on suspicious information,” he added.
The DM said there was an increase in candidate participation compared to the disrupted exam in Dec. “While 5,671 answer sheets were submitted on Dec 13, Saturday’s exam saw 5,943 candidates appear. The arrangements ensured the exam was conducted in a clean, misconduct-free and peaceful environment,” Singh added.
Ahead of the examination, the DM and the SSP interacted with candidates, seeking feedback on the arrangements. “Candidates expressed satisfaction with the well-organized and excellent arrangements,” Singh said.
