Bhubaneswar: A dispute regarding bill amount at a bar near Damana here escalated into violence when a patron allegedly shot at a bouncer, causing bullet injuries to his right knee.The armed confrontation occurred outside the bar during the intervening hours of Friday and Saturday.The attacker and his three or four accomplices fled the scene and remain at large. Surya Kanta Pradhan (34), the injured bouncer, is undergoing treatment in a private hospital here.”We have identified the main suspect, Siba Patra, and his associates. A scuffle broke out between the accused and bar staff during payment of the bill. When Pradhan intervened, the situation escalated,” a senior police officer said.Pradhan along with other security guards allegedly drove Patra and his friends out of the bar, and asked them to leave. Outside the bar, a clash broke out between the two sides. Patra, who was drunk, pulled out his firearm and shot at Pradhan’s leg.”Patra terrorised the bar employees by resorting to multiple rounds of firing during which one bullet hit Pradhan’s leg. He is out of danger,” the police officer said.Police have detained eight suspects in connection with the firing case.According to police sources, Patra regularly visits the bar. Staff members of the liquor joint revealed his recent altercation with another man inside the bar. “Both Patra and his rival with whom he had a scuffle inside the bar were present. Patra wanted to take revenge and engaged in an altercation. Our bouncer intervened,” a bar employee said.Chandrasekharpur police have initiated a search operation for the accused while investigating the bar’s extended operating hours. The forensic team has gathered evidence, including spent cartridges. Police authorities are analysing CCTV footage from the vicinity to track the movements of the accused.”Though the bar was supposed to be shut at 12 am, it was open beyond the closing time. We will check the CCTV footage of the opening and closing hours. We will also verify whether the bar obtained permission to operate till late hours on the weekend,” the police officer said.
