Patna: The body of an 18-year-old youth, who had been missing from his home for the last three days, was recovered from a canal at Sarari village under Town police station of Jamui district on Friday. The body was found with a belt around the neck and hands tied behind the back, suggesting strangulation using the belt, said police. Youth’s family members suspect that he may have been killed over a love affair with a girl.
According to police, the deceased was identified as Shubham Kumar, son of Vikas Singh, a resident of Lalpur village under Khaira police station area in the district.Shubham, a Class XII student, had gone to the market on Wednesday evening, but did not return home till late night. His family members searched for him everywhere, but they found no trace of him. However, on Friday morning, they got to know that his body is lying in the canal near the village. Upon reaching there, they recognised the body as of Shubham.
Sadar SDPO, Satish Suman, said, “Prima facie, it seems that the youth was killed after being held hostage somewhere. His hands were tied, and a belt was around his neck. The body had started decomposing. We are waiting for the postmortem report from Sadar hospital to ascertain the actual cause the death. Further action will be taken as per the FIR.”
