Bodies of 2 minor boys found in village pond
Kendrapada: Bodies of two 13-year-old boys were found floating in a village pond in Kendrapada district on Wednesday morning.
The deceased, identified as Durga Prasad Mahapatra and Dipanshu Mahapatra, were Class VII students at the local school in Bandhakuda village. The boys were last seen heading to their tuition classes on Tuesday afternoon.
When they failed to return home that evening, family members launched a search but couldn’t locate them. Their bodies were discovered early Wednesday by villagers who had gone to collect water at the pond.
“We have registered a case of unnatural death and sent the bodies for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death,” said Purnachandra Pattayat, IIC of Marsaghai police station.
Initial investigation suggests the boys may have accidentally slipped into a deep pit near the pond’s entrance, a known hazard according to resident Parameswar Das.
However, the parents of the boys suspect foul play and have demanded a thorough investigation. “Some persons might have murdered them and disposed of the bodies in the pond,” alleged a family member.
Police officers said the investigation is ongoing, and they are exploring all angles to determine the circumstances leading to the deaths.
