BMC’s slum redvpt survey notice sparks concern in Kurla

Mumbai: A notice sent by BMC’s L ward to around 40 houses in Kurla’s Christian village has left local residents in a state of worry. A public meeting to discuss the notice was held on Friday evening.
Gleason Baretto, Trustee, Mobai Gaothon Panchayat, said, “Gaonthons and Koliwadas cannot be issued SRA notice as per state govt notification. On behalf of the Old Kurla Villagers, we demand recall and cancellation of this notice with immediate effect.”
The notice refers to the biometric survey of the slum dwellers in all the slums situated in the BMC area with the help of external survey systems appointed by the Slum Rehabilitation Authority. This survey was initiated by the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA).
“The said survey is being done through the Maharashtra Govt Slum Rehabilitation Authority, and there is no interest of any developer/organisation in this. Although this survey is being done through the authority, the rights of slum dwellers and landowners will remain intact,” states the notice.
BMC officials said the notice is to houses in the periphery of the Gaothan and not within its limits. Baretto said that in that case, the notice mentions ‘Christian village,’ which should be removed.
