BMC looking into nods for hotel, use of basement | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Mumbai: A day after inspecting hotel Unicontinental in Khar, where comedian Kunal Kamra recorded his show which has created a controversy, the BMC is scrutinising the building’s approvals for potential violations. Officials said they are verifying structural plans with the building proposal department and reviewing the hotel’s operating permits. Kamra performed at The Habitat studio located within hotel Unicontinental. A BMC official said they have sought the hotel’s plans from the building proposal department. “This is an old structure, and retrieving plans is taking time. Meanwhile, we have asked the hotel to submit all relevant operating permits. Additionally, there are two mobile towers on the building, and we are verifying their approvals. A bar and restaurant also operate from the premises, each requiring separate permissions from the BMC. We will wait for two days, and if the required documents are not provided, we will be compelled to take action,” the official said, adding the hotel management has been told to ensure all documents are submitted. Further, officials said action was being planned for use of the basement as a studio space, which was prima facie illegal. On Monday evening, the BMC removed an illegal shed on the hotel premises. The hotel will have to pay the cost for the removal. — Richa Pinto
