BMC: BMC introduces separate facilities for idol immersion | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: For the first time, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) is offering separate facilities for the immersion of Ganesh idols worshipped at home.
“Residents can hand over the idols at the nearest BMC Kalyan Mandap, the list of which has been provided. The idols will then be transported in BMC vehicles to designated sites for proper immersion,” reads the official BMC order
According to sources, the idols will be carefully placed on tables or racks at these centres before being transported under the supervision of a deputy commissioner-rank officer.
Additionally, the BMC has issued an SOP to ensure cleanliness at puja pandals and to prevent the use of chemical or plastic paints in idol making. Puja committees have been asked to remove all decorative items, such as flowers and clothes, before the immersion. The SOP said that special collection zones will be set up near the immersion sites for these materials, as they will be handled as a separate type of waste.
In a related development, city police have upheld a ban on DJ music during Ganesh Puja, rejecting an appeal from DJ Owner’s Association and Odisha Sounds and Lights Owners’ Association.
