BJP hails Centre’s decision on creamy layer for SC/STs

Patna: State BJP functionaries on Saturday praised the Union cabinet’s stand that there is no constitutional provision for a “creamy layer” in the quotas designated for scheduled caste (SC) and scheduled tribe (ST) groups.
Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary led the state BJP functionaries in supporting the decision. “As maintained by the Union cabinet, there is no provision for a creamy layer in the Constitution with regard to the SC and ST groups. The issue is settled,” Chaudhary said, describing the Centre’s decision as “bold” and expressing gratitude to the PM.
Other BJP netas, including minister Janak Ram, SC Morcha president Lakhendra Paswan and party spokesman Yogendra Paswan echoed this support.
The Supreme Court’s recent order to sub-categorize SC and ST groups based on advancement had sparked a divide within the NDA. Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan opposed the order, while Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) patron Jitan Ram Manjhi welcomed it, arguing it should have come 10 years before.
State minister Janak Ram said, “The PM has indicated that the govt will not allow any assault on the interests of backward castes, SC and ST groups. Whatever is provided in the Constitution for them will prevail.”
