BJP expresses concern over sunstroke deaths | Bhubaneswar News
BHUBANESWAR: BJP on Friday expressed concern over suspected sunstroke deaths reported from different parts of western Odisha districts. It criticized the state govt for allegedly not taking strong steps to tackle the heatwave related deaths despite getting weather information from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Samir Mohanty, former president of Odisha BJP, said govt became careless after reduction of temperature last week and lost the track to keep tab on the situation when daytime temperature suddenly crossed 45 degree Celsius at some districts in the western part of the state.
“Due to lack of alertness, the hospitals could not provide quality treatment during the golden hours of a patient. Now govt has ordered an inquiry into the matter which shows the severity of the situation. We request people to take preventive steps to tackle the heatwave situation that will prevail in some parts of the state for the next three days,” said Mohanty.
While expressing concern over the cracker explosion incident at Puri, Mohanty said six people died and 24 were injured in the accident. “They could not get immediate healthcare service due to the lack of a burn unit in Puri district. Now they are undergoing treatment at Cuttack and Bhubaneswar-based hospitals,” he added.
BJP expressed its condolences to the bereaved family members of the deceased. The party demanded the state to improve the healthcare service and provide compensation to the next of kin of the deceased and injured people.
