BJP: BJP’s Victory in Western Odisha Leads to Maximum Council Berths | Bhubaneswar News
Bhubaneswar: Western Odisha got the lion’s share of ministerial berths with three cabinet and one deputy chief minister’s post in the 16-member council.
The region is being represented by Patnagarh MLA and royal scion Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who took oath as deputy chief minister. Mukesh Mahaling, who won from Loisingha, Suresh Pujari (Brajarajnagar) and Rabi Narayan Naik (Kuchinda) are the other three from western Odisha.
Out of 16 ministers who took oath, two each are from three districts — Balangir, Mayurbhanj and Ganjam — and one each from Keonjhar, Puri, Nabarangpur, Khurda, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur.
The BJP won 14 assembly seats from four Lok Sabha segments — Sambalpur, Bargarh, Kalahandi and Balangir, having 28 assembly seats. In Balangir Lok Sabha segment, out of the seven assembly seats, five went to BJP. In Bargarh, BJP captured six of the seven assembly seats.
From Bargarh, Pujari has been picked as cabinet minister while from Sambalpur, Naik has made it to the cabinet. Balangir LS segments got two ministers — Mahaling and Singh Deo.
Ganjam and Mayurbhanj districts got two ministers each. Gokulananda Mallik, who won from Polasara assembly seat was made minister of state (MoS), while Bibhuti Bhusan Jena (Gopalpur) was made a cabinet minister. Morada MLA Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and Jashipur MLA Ganesh Ram Singkhuntia were made cabinet and MoS, respectively, from Mayurbhanj.
