BJD questions govt claims on investment proposals, BJP hits back | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Challenging the govt’s assertion regarding investment proposals received during the Utkarsh Odisha event, the BJD on Wednesday claimed the majority of investment intents were secured during the last three Make in Odisha (MIO) conclaves that were organised when Naveen Patnaik was in power.
BJD MLA and former industries minister Dibya Shankar Mishra described Utkarsh Odisha as a replicated version of Naveen’s MIO. He stated that investors were drawn to Odisha because of the BJD govt’s business environment and Industrial Policy Resolution (IPR) 2022.
Responding to it, BJP said despite significant potential, industrial development had stagnated during Naveen’s tenure.
Mishra said IPR 2022 was designed to establish a favourable environment through supportive policy and regulatory frameworks for sustainable industrial development. “The emphasis of the policy was to make Odisha a destination of choice for industrial enterprises. The policy focussed on providing quality industrial infrastructure, creation of a large land bank, financial assistance to the private sector for development of industrial infrastructure, and sustainable environmental protection,” Mishra added.
BJD said of the Rs 16 lakh crore investment proposals secured during the MIO editions in 2016, 2018 and 2022, 33% of the projects are operational while 17% are near completion. Mishra indicated that investments spanned various sectors including metal & metal downstream, refractory, textiles, food processing, fertilizers, chemicals, petroleum & petrochemicals and plastics. He also pointed out that the BJP govt has not established any new or attractive industrial policy to draw industries to Odisha.
Rubbishing the claims, industries minister Sampad Chandra Swain said, “Despite significant potential, the industrial sector remained underdeveloped due to the previous govt’s indifferent approach. Utkarsh Odisha has generated fresh optimism for industrial expansion and employment opportunities. Investors now perceive promising prospects in Odisha under the double-engine governance system.”
