BJD Men: BJD men arrested for attacking BJP workers in Balangir |


Balangir: Police on Sunday arrested three BJD functionaries, including a block chairman, for allegedly attacking two BJP workers following an altercation at Patnagarh block office in Balangir district on Saturday.
The accused were identified as Nilakanta Bag, chairman of Patanagarh block, and his associates Madhab Bag and Jayachandra Nag. The victims — Swarupa Parua, husband of the sarpanch of Marua panchayat, and Shishudev — were initially admitted to the sub-divisional hospital in Patnagarh.When Swarupa’s condition deteriorated, doctors referred him to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital in Balangir.
“We detained the accused on Saturday night for interrogation. Later they were arrested and produced in court. The clash occurred due to sudden provocation over some issues. They didn’t have any past enmity. Investigation is on,” said Sadananda Pujari, SDPO, Patnagarh.
Police, quoting a victim’s statement, said Swarupa and two supporters went to meet the block development officer (BDO) on Saturday evening regarding some development work. Suddenly, Nilakanta and his two associates barged into the BDO’s chamber and indulged in a heated argument with the BJP men over some issues. Subsequently, the BJD men attacked the BJP workers.
Police are examining the footage from CCTV cameras on the block office premises for more clues about the incident.
