BJD Demands Minister’s Resignation After Deaths Linked to Mango Kernel Consumption |

Bhubaneswar: Opposition BJD on Wednesday intensified its demand for resignation of food supplies and consumer welfare minister Krushna Chandra Patra following the deaths of two women in Kandhamal district who allegedly consumed mango kernel.
BJD spokesperson Lekhasri Samantasinghar said, “We demand the minister’s resignation and registration of a criminal case against him.”
BJP state vice-president Sukeshi Oram countered BJD’s allegations, calling it “narrow politics”. She cited similar incidents from 2016 and 2018 in Rayagada and Nabarangpur districts, where people died after consuming mango kernel gruel during the previous BJD govt.
“Local sources confirm this is a case of food poisoning, not starvation,” Oram said, adding that BJD had historically “conspired to dispossess tribals of their land.” TNN
