BJD Corporators: 20 BJD corporators willing to join BJP | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: Senior BJD leader and BMC corporator Amaresh Jena on Tuesday said around 20 BJD corporators are willing to join BJP.
Levelling allegation against Bhubaneswar-Central MLA Ananta Narayan Jena and former minister Ashok Panda for fuelling infighting in BJD, Amaresh said BJD corporators are unhappy with activities of the duo. Amaresh, a three-time corporator, was part of a BJD faction which tried to put pressure on party functionaries for a ticket to contest from Bhubaneswar-Central assembly seat.Amaresh was even seen with BJP supporters after he was denied a ticket. In 2022 election to BMC, while BJD captured 48 wards, BJP won from 10 wards. Nine wards went to independents out of total 67 wards.
The Bhubaneswar-Central MLA and former Ekamra MLA are hobnobbing with some corporators to break our unity. “If our unity collapses, BJP will take advantage of it. Some corporators are already in touch with BJP leaders. Recently, both senior BJD leaders (Panda and Jena) had a secret meeting,” Amaresh told TOI. Ahead of the election, Amaresh, claimed to have the support of many ex-corporators and threatened to switch party if Ananta was re-nominated by BJD from the Bhubaneswar-Central seat. Ananta was the mayor of BMC for two terms before his stint as MLA from 2019.
Denying the allegation, Ananta said, “A section of BJD has been spreading misinformation against him even before election. After my win, I had gone to meet former Ekamra MLA with some corporators. It was a courtesy call, which some people are misconstruing.” When asked about the allegation levelled against him, Panda declined to comment.
