Kendrapada: Kalpana Rout, the BJD chairperson of Mahakalapada block in Kendrapada district, on Wednesday lost a no-confidence motion moved against her. Out of the 62 panchayat body members, 49 voted against her and 13 abstained from voting. On May 20, as mny as 44 panchayat body members moved a no-confidence motion against the chairperson before the collector.The no-confidence vote was held at the block office under the chairmanship of Shiba Mallick, the tehsildar of Mahakalapada and returning officer. “A total of 49 panchayat body members took part in the voting process, which was conducted as per the Gram Panchayat Act,” Mallick said.Kalpana Rout blamed some BJP leaders for her defeat in the no-confidence motion. “Being a woman, I did many developmental works in Mahakalapada block. But some senior BJP leaders of the district, with an ulterior motive, lured many panchayat body members to vote against me,” Kalpana claimed.“BJD is falling like ninepins in the district.
