Bhubaneswar: A BJD delegation on Tuesday moved the state’s chief electoral officer accusing BJP’s MLA candidate for Titlagarh, Nabin Kumar Jain, of flouting the model code of conduct by allegedly distributing liquor to voters.
BJD in its complaint stated that Jain along with BJP supporters distributed foreign liquor and beer to voters at Naren village under Titlagarh block on May 20 when the voting was being held.
“Such actions are not only illegal but also a blatant attempt to influence the voters through unethical means. As a responsible political party, we are deeply troubled by this flagrant disregard for the principle of free and fair elections,” the BJD complaint read.
BJD Rajya Sabha MP Sulata Deo, who led the delegation, said the distribution of foreign liquor not only undermines the integrity of the electoral process but also sets a dangerous precedent for future elections.
