BIT-P to celebrate National Space Day on July 29 | Patna News – Times of India


Patna: The Bihar Council on Science and Technology (BCST) in association with U R Rao Satellite Centre under the Department of Space has decided to celebrate the maiden National Space Day at a function to be held here at Birla Institute of Technology-Patna (BIT-P) on July 29.
Notably, the central govt has declared August 23 as National Space Day in commemoration of the successful landing of the Chandrayaan-3 Vikram lander on the lunar south polar region on this date last year.

BCST project director Anant Kumar told this newspaper on Wednesday that the celebration aligns with the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO’s) plan to observe the country’s historic feat in the space sector in all the states before August 23. “Our function here of July 29 is a part of that celebration. The event is aimed at creating awareness about space technology, particularly among students, teachers and among the public at large as well,” he said, adding that the celebrations of our achievements in the scientific field also intend to develop scientific temper among young talents, who may be interested in making their career in the arena.
Detailing about the event, BCST nodal officer Shiv Shankar Sahay said altogether 100 educational institutions from Patna and the adjoining areas have been invited to participate in the event. “Around 1,000 students and teachers representing various schools and colleges and the general public are expected to be a part of the one-day event,” Sahay said.
An array of events, comprising lectures by experts on space, science and technology, information regarding activities relating to ISRO with a special focus on the challenges, opportunities and societal benefits of the same have been planned. In addition, video shows concerning space will also be featured along with an exhibition of models and a quiz competition for the students.
“Each school and college has been asked to send two teachers with science background, preferably physics and/or computer science, and 20-30 science students of Class IX and above for the event,” he said, adding that each educational institution on the occasion will be allowed to exhibit one model prepared by the respective students.
A team of scientists and officials from ISRO along with senior officers of the state govt are expected to grace the occasion. The institutions are required to confirm their participation in the said programme through email at pd@bcst.org.in by July 24 by 5pm.
