Bihar welcomes southwest monsoon, relief from heatwave | Patna News – Times of India



Patna: The southwest monsoon entered Bihar, with early morning showers bringing little relief from the prolonged heatwave on Thursday, according to Patna Meteorological Centre.
The impact of the monsoon was observed in north and eastern parts of the state, bringing down the mercury, which is expected to go further down by another 2-4 degrees Celsius in the next 48 hours, said the meteorologists in Patna.
But humidity will also increase, said weather scientist S K Suman of Patna Meteorological Centre.
As a result of the rainfall, no district witnessed heatwave on the day, while only three places — Dehri (Rohtas), Aurangabad and Arwal — recorded the maximum temperature of over 40 degrees Celsius. The state’s highest maximum temperature of 41 degrees Celsius was recorded at Aurangabad and minimum of 21 degrees Celsius at Motihari in East Champaran on the day. Patna’s maximum temperature on the day stood at 37.5 degrees Celsius, nearly four notches lower than the previous day, and minimum was recorded at 25.9 degrees Celsius.
The maximum rainfall of 126.2mm was recorded at Dhengraghat in Purnia, followed by Birpur in Supaul (94mm) and Bahadurganj in Kishanganj (82.4mm). Other areas with significant amount of rainfall included East and West Champaran, Araria, Siwan, Jamui, Gopalganj and Katihar.
Patna Met office has issued yellow warning for heavy rainfall likely at one or two places in West and East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani and Saran districts for Friday. A yellow warning has also been issued for thunderstorm with lightning and gusty winds at 40-50km/hour at isolated places over the rest of the state.
As per the weather bulletin, light to moderate rainfall is likely at some places across the state is expected on Friday.
