Bihar Weather Forecast: Low to Moderate Rain Expected in Two Days | Patna News – Times of India

‘State to witness low to moderate rain in two days’

Patna: The India Meteorological Department-Patna (IMD-Patna) on Wednesday forecast low to moderate rain in majority of places in the state and intermittent shower for the rest of areas in the next 24 to 48 hours. Few places in north-western and south-central part of the state may also witness heavy precipitation accompanied by thunderstorms during the same period.
“It has been observed that the monsoon trough is moving towards Bay of Bengal and a cyclonic circulation is also being developed around the areas of Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand and northern Orissa with a southwest wards tilt. Due to the combined effect of the two weather phenomena, there is a possibility of the development of low pressure area in the next 24 hours that may result in light to moderate downpour at many places in Bihar,” said the weather bulletin on Wednesday.
Heavy rain at one or two places was also predicted in the districts of Banka and Kishanganj on Thursday.
However, the state was still short of 26% of normal rain till Wednesday, which is a matter of concern, said the weatherman, adding, rainfall deficit in the range of 1 to 17 % is considered normal, but shortfall beyond that is worrisome.
Notably, two districts—Arwal and Kishanganj—have received 3% and 19% of above normal rain respectively, while Siwan has witnessed normal precipitation till date. But all the other districts have experienced below normal rain, with as many as 25 of them registering deficit in the range of 20% to 50%.
Against the normal shower of 490.9mm, capital Patna received merely 269.1mm of rain, which is a gap of 45% till Wednesday.
