Bihar Police Arrests Trio for Extortion Calls Posing as Lawrence Bishnoi Gang | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: Three cybercriminals were arrested for demanding extortion from five people, including two doctors, in Gopalganj district in the name of the notorious gangster, Lawrence Bishnoi. The arrested criminals, natives of West Champaran district, demanded extortion in the name of the Bishnoi gang on a ‘trial basis’, police said on Friday.
The arrested criminals were identified as Guddu Kumar and Dilip Kumar, sons of Chandrakishore Prasad Kushwaha from Harpurwa village in Jogapatti police station area and Nitish Kumar, son of Rajkishore Prasad from Pokharia village in Bairia police station area.
“A demand of Rs 1,50,000 was made in the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang via WhatsApp call to Dr Biresh Kumar Shankar and Dr Mamun Yahya Rahi of Barauli Bazaar on October 30, 2024. They were also threatened with dire consequences if they informed the police,” said Gopalganj SP, Avdhesh Dixit.
“Based on a written application from Biresh Kumar, a case was registered at the Barauli police station, and an investigation was started in the matter. To solve the case, a special investigation team (SIT) was formed led by Sadar-2 SDPO,” said the SP.
The SP said that after gathering the technical evidence, including call detail records (CDR) and location mapping, the three cybercriminals were arrested from the Sadar area of Gopalganj district. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they made attempt to extort money by cashing in on the name of Lawrence Bishnoi. “However, they are not members of the notorious gang,” he said.
“They were also involved in cybercrimes by making fraud calls using Voice over Internet Protocols (VoIP) to give digital threats to people and extort money from them. On a trial basis, they made calls to the five people claiming themselves to be members of the Bishnoi gang and demanded extortion money. They are not connected with the notorious gang, but are local cybercriminals,” added the Gopalganj SP.
