Bihar cadre IPS officer Kundan Krishnan relieved from central deputation

Patna: Senior IPS officer Kundan Krishnan was relieved from central deputation on Monday to join his home cadre in Bihar.
The ministry of home affairs issued a notification in this regard on Monday. Krishnan, a 1994-batch IPS officer, is currently serving as additional director general (ADG) in CISF.
Krishnan, a native of Nalanda district, was made senior superintendent of police, Patna, during the President’s rule in the state in 2005.
Krishnan displayed tough policing on several occasions. In 2002, as Saran SP, he made headlines for chasing prisoners at Chhapra jail with an AK-47 assault rifle. About 1,200 inmates then had taken control of the facilities at the prison, pelted stones at the police and started firing by snatching their weapons.
On receiving the information, he took an AK-47 rifle and confronted the prisoners. In the police response, five prisoners were killed. Krishnan’s hand was also fractured.
According to police sources, in 2006, he also clashed with don-turned-politician Anand Mohan. Mohan was to appear in a court in Dehradun. After the hearing, Mohan returned to Patna, although he was supposed to return to Saharsa jail, where he was lodged. In Patna, he checked into a hotel near the railway station and stayed there. As soon as Krishnan, then serving as Patna City SP, got information about Mohan’s stay, he arrived at the hotel with his team to arrest him.
A heated argument took place between the two. At last, Krishnan put him in a police vehicle and took him back to the Saharsa jail.
