Bihar Human Rights Commission Shocked Over Custodial Death, Orders Rs 15 Lakh Compensation | Patna News – Times of India
Patna: The Bihar Human Rights Commission (BHRC) has expressed shock over the alleged police torture that led to the custodial death of Jitesh Kumar on March 31 in Phulwarisharif, Patna, and asked the state govt to pay a compensation of Rs 15 lakh to the victim’s father and send the Patna police to face charges of contempt before the Patna high court.
The compensation amount is to be recovered from the erring police personnel involved in this incident. Jitesh was allegedly subjected to custodial torture by police personnel in the office of SDPO, Phulwarisharif.
Though justice (retired) A M Badar, the chairman of BHRC, passed the order on June 20, it was made available on Thursday. The commission had taken suo motu cognizance of the incident on April 2s, stating that it “caused the flag of humanity to fly half-mast in Bihar”.
The commission had directed the state’s CID to probe the entire case and initiated a departmental inquiry against the Patna SSP.
