Bhubaneswar: Capital city received another heavy spell of rain on Wednesday afternoon, the second day in a row, bringing down the temperature drastically. According to IMD, Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 38.8°C during the day, which later dropped by 14 degrees following a heavy downpour. The city recorded 43.8 mm of rainfall between 3:30 pm and 5:30 pm on Wednesday.Apart from Bhubaneswar, other places across the state also recorded rainfall: 35.8 mm in Balasore, 34 mm in Sonepur, 20 mm in Titilagarh and 13 mm in Khurda on Wednesday. Sources said nor’wester rain and thunderstorm activities caused severe damage in districts like Jagatsinghpur, Balasore and Deogarh. Several trees were uprooted and roofs of asbestos houses were damaged in the strong wind, sources said.Despite rainfall at a few locations, most districts of Odisha experienced dry weather with sweltering conditions. Sambalpur recorded the maximum temperature of 39.4°C, followed by 39.1°C in Angul and 39°C in Bhadrak. Most parts of the state also experienced high humidity levels between 55% and 95% on Wednesday.The IMD has issued a yellow warning for hot and humid conditions in coastal districts. There is also a likelihood of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds in some regions, including Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Rayagada and Malkangiri in the next few days. “No significant change in maximum temperatures is expected over the state for the next 6-7 days,” the IMD bulletin said.
