Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Unveils Artistic Wall Painting Campaign Ahead of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has initiated a fresh wall painting campaign as part of its ongoing city beautification programme for the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas from Jan 8 to 10.
The civic body has enlisted more than 100 artists and assigned them the specific task of adorning barren walls with creative mural paintings. “We finalised the painting in the core areas of the city with the empanelled artists. This was accomplished for the IG/DG conference that recently concluded in the city. The campaign will continue for the upcoming Pravasi Bharatiya Divas,” executive engineer (BMC), Saroj Mohapatra, said.
Mohapatra added, “We have already identified several stretches where the wall painting is progressing. The comprehensive list will be prepared in a meeting scheduled on Saturday.”
Presently, these stretches include Nalco Square to Sainik School, Raj Bhavan to AG Square, Bidyut Marg near Kalinga Stadium and additional areas which will get fresh wall paintings. BMC is also re-painting areas where the murals have faded.
“Wall painting is not new for us. Numerous walls of Bhubaneswar were previously beautified with mural paintings. Currently, we are focusing on previously untouched areas while restoring the faded ones,” city mayor Sulochana Das said.
Officials said the wall painting themes centre around Odia art, culture and tradition. The ongoing wall painting work encompasses tribal art, craft and lifestyle. “We will pursue thematic wall paint work this time as well,” Mohapatra added.
The wall painting initiative in the city was intensified during the Asian Athletics Championship in 2017, followed by the FIH Hockey Men’s World Cup the subsequent year. The walls were transformed with exquisite artwork by artists then.
Beyond wall painting, landscaping and open space development were also undertaken then. BMC is currently making comparable efforts to enhance the city’s aesthetics for Pravasi Bharatiya Divas.
