He said they are actively working on plans related to construction of houses, essential facilities, drainage and intra-city transportation under its Bhubaneswar development plan area, which includes 568 revenue villages and is spread over around 1,110 square km.
Naik said that six projects are underway under the affordable housing scheme for the urban poor in Chandrasekharpur, Gadakana, Ghatikia, Shanti Nagar and Subudhipur. Altogether 342 dwelling units have been completed in Subudhipur, he added.
“In Shanti Nagar, 560 flats in the first phase, 820 in Chandrasekharpur, and 960 units in the first phase of Neelamadhav housing project have been completed. These houses have been handed over to 1,829 eligible beneficiaries,” he said. Naik said the BDA has purchased private land between a shopping mall and railway station in Patia for road development. “BDA is also acquiring land for a right parallel road from Guru Kelucharan Park to Patia railway station,” he said.
Housing and urban development minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, who is also BDA chairman, emphasised the need for strategic urban planning to accommodate the growing population. “It is important to ensure a close collaboration between the authorities and public to develop the city, maintain its greenery, along with improving its sewerage and drainage system. We aspire to make Bhubaneswar a world-class city,” he said.
